The Ho Technical University (HTU) has set aside GH?500,000 as seed money to support faculty research as part of their strategic objectives.
Launching the Research Fund officially in Ho yesterday, Professor Ben Hoenyenuga, Vice Chancellor of HTU, explained that the establishment and launch of the fund was one of their key objectives enshrined in the strategic plan of the university.
The vision, he said, would move research and innovation from the cradle to a reputable level.
According to him,the strategic direction of research and innovation enjoins them to improve the overall quality of research and elevate the University onto the higher level of academic excellence, promote innovative research agenda that generate new ideas.
Professor Hoenyenuga stated further that as part of efforts to drive the agenda, management has deployed a re-constitution of the Research Conference and Innovation Committee of the University pursuant to Schedule B(3) of the HTU statutes.
It has equally developed a Research Fund Guidelines document to aid in awarding research funds to qualified applicants.
Prof.Hoenyenuga noted that management needed to provide opportunities for faculty to conduct innovative research that contributes significantly to the Ghanaian and global community.
He advised that all completed application forms must be submitted electronically through the Research Fund portal hosted on the university website.
Prof.Hoenyenuga reiterated that the fund has been established to create the needed institutional support system geared towards enhancing the capacity of faculty to undertake top-notch research, publications and to improve the general research output.
He urged all faculty and eligible applicants to make good use of the opportunity to enhance their scholarly and professional pursuits as we seek to improve our research output and impact as a reputable technical university.
DrFiifiTurkson, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering,in his remarks commended the efforts of management for this bold initiative which he said would enhance academic work.
He, however, called on management to pay attention to new faculty laboratories and upgrade the existing old ones to play a major role in their research work.
