The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has re-opened vaccination centres across the Greater Accra Region for members of the public to take their shots of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines.
It has also deployed mobile vaccinators to administer vaccines to indisposed persons who may be unable to visit the sites for their jabs.
This phase of the exercise, which begun on October 5, 2021, according to a statement released by the Regional Health Directorate, will end on Monday, October 11, 2021.
Only AstraZeneca vaccines are being administered for all persons 18 years and above who have never taken a shot of COVID-19 vaccine or those awaiting their second dose.
The statement said, vaccination will take place in all 29 districts of the region and implored persons visiting vaccination centres to go along with their national identification cards for first timers and COVID-19 cards for those, wanting a second jab.
So far, Ghana has received more than 3 million vaccinesdistributed through the COVAX facility.
They includeModerna, Johnson and Johnson, Sputnik V and AstraZeneca as government assures of doing all within its power to secure more vaccines in coming days to inoculate at least 60 percent of the population before the end of the year.
As of October 4, 2021, the GHS reported that a total of 2,025,183 vaccines have been administered among the Ghanaian population.
Nonetheless, 2,891 are currently infected with COVID-19 across all 16 regions of the country.
The death toll as of October 1, 2021 stood at 1,157 with 118 people and 45 others in severe and critical conditions respectively.
The Greater Accra region continues to be the country’s epicentre with 1,894 active cases, followed by the Ashanti region, 204, Western, 187, Central, 123, and the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) 104.
