The Government has extended the validity period of the Ghanaian passport booklet from five years to 10 years, effective March 31, 2019.
A statement signed by Mr Mohammed Habibu Tijani, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the extension covered the validity of the ordinary passport booklet issued to qualified Ghanaian applicants.
The statement said the processing fee would, however, not be affected until further notice.
A passport is an official document issued by a government, certifying the holder’s identity and citizenship and entitling them to travel under its protection to and from foreign countries.
Passport is one of the required documents needed for Ghanaians to register for the Ghana Citizenship Card.
It is one of the legally accepted documents which citizens can travel with to other countries.
Passport is one of the most sought after documents in Ghana. For some time now, people form long queues starting at dawn just to obtain a passport.
There are varying reasons why people apply for passports, while others need it for travel purposes; others need it for commercial reasons.
