The Inspector General of Police, Mr David Asante-Apeatu has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to speed up investigations into the shooting incident at Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency during the by-election to elect a Member of Parliament for the area yesterday.
The Director of Police Public Affairs, Superintendent of Police (Supt) Sheila Kessie Abayie-Buckman stated these in a press release issued and copied to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.
She said the attention of the Police Administration had been drawn to a shooting incident at Bawaleshie, Accra yesterday morning in the course of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by- election leading to the injury of six people.
Supt Abayie-Buckman said there was no recorded death resulting from the shooting incident.
The Director said calm had been restored to the area and six injured persons were responding to treatment at the Legon and 37 Military hospitals.
She encouraged the public especially voters and residents of the constituency to remain calm and go about their duties freely without fear as more police officers had been deployed to the area to ensure law and order.
