The new Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi, has urged sporting federations to find ways of resolving their internal wrangling, other than resorting to the law courts.
Sports federations under the NSA, has over the years been affected by series of law suits and counter suits, a situation that has affected their progress and development.
The Ghana Taekwondo Federation, Ghana Cycling Federation, Ghana Volleyball Federation, Ghana Athletics Association, have legal cases hanging on their necks over years.
According to the new NSA boss, the wrangling within the associations hinders the progress of Ghanaian athletes, especially the young ones as they are hugely affected.
Speaking at the launch of the 44th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) awards, Professor Twumasi, reiterated the mandate of the NSA, which is to support, manage and promote and regulate sports in the country but stated how the situation has continually become a stumbling block to the development of sports.
“We should put all differences aside and focus on the development and nurture the talents we have been blessed with,” he said.
He added, “Ghana has abundant talents but the problem is that we don’t have the coaches to help nurture them to realise the potential.
Professor Twumasi also announced the resumption of the national cross country event which would kick start from February 2-9, 2019 at Mpohor in the Western Region. –GNA
