Bilateral trade between Ghana and India increased significantly from $2.5billion in 2017 to $3billion in 2018, last year.
India is increasing investment in Ghana, and policies and programmes are geared towards the Ghana Beyond Aid policy of the government.
Mr Birender Singh Yadav, India High Commissioner in Ghana, disclosed this at a flag raising ceremony to mark the 70th Republic Day anniversary of India at the residence of the High Commissioner in Accra on Saturday.
The Republic Day is a day that commemorates January 26, 1950, when the Constitution of India came into force, replacing Government of India Act 1935.
The day is significant in India’s history as it became a Republic nation from British rule.
Mr Yadav, who read the Indian President, Mr Ram Nath Kovind’s Republic day message to the Indian community in Accra, said India was providing a credit line of $30 million towards the Yendi water supply project.
He indicated that as development partners, trade and investment as well as bilateral relations between Ghana and India would be sustained.
Mr Yadav said the decision to relocate the statue of Mahatma Gandhi from the University of Ghana, Legon, to the India-Ghana Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT was taken by the government of Ghana in October 2016.
The High Commissioner said the statue will soon be unveiled as part of the 150th anniversary cerebrations of Ghandhi.
He said the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi to India’s freedom was immeasurable and that he stood for non-violence, adding that a year-long programme had been initiated to celebrate his 150th birth day anniversary.
