Zagyuri Anglican Primary gets classroom block

A three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities has been constructed for Zagyuri Anglican Primary School in the Sagnarigu municipality of the Northern Region.

The new facility, which has an office, a store furnished with tables and chairs, reading materials, as well as dual desks amongst others, is to serve as additional classroom infrastructure to accommodate the increasing number of pupils of the school to enhance access to educational facilities in the area.

The project was funded by Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC), a child centred non-governmental organisation (NGO) and its partner, Markaz-Al Bishara (MAB) as part of MAB’s Child Development Programme aimed at supporting communities with serene educational environment to promote teaching and learning.

Mr George Baiden, Country Director of CCFC, speaking at a community durbar to inaugurate the facility, appealed to stakeholders to show interest and invest in education at the various communities to ensure an early foundation for children.

He urged parents to cooperate with teachers to effectively address the educational challenges likely to hinder the development of children in the community.

Mrs Patricia Gyan-Klu, Programmes Manager of MAB, said the partnership of the two NGOs sought to create hope for children, families and communities in attaining the needed skills and resources to overcome poverty and injustice in society.

She said there is the need for children to acquire the needed skills and knowledge in a more safe, serene and conducive environment to help in their early development, hence the facility.

Mrs Mariam Iddrisu, Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, said government has made education a topmost priority by implementing the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme to provide equal opportunities for all.

Mrs Iddrisu appealed to parents to complement efforts of government to ensure that children were enrolled into schools.

She said the municipality would work to complete various ongoing projects in the area as well as renovate those in a poor state to create a serene and conducive environment to enhance teaching and learning.

Dr Belinda Bennet, Chief International Programmes Officer of CCFC, who was the Special Guest at the ceremony, was happy that the facility would help improve education delivery for children.

Mrs Bawa Ayamga Rukaya, headmistress, Zagyuri Anglican Primary School, lauded CCFC and MAB for their efforts towards giving the school a facelift to promote education in the community.
