The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA) has handed over a newly constructed girls’ dormitory to the Ashaiman Senior High School for use.
Speaking at a short ceremony to hand over the building to the school, Mr Albert Boakye Okyere, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ashaiman, said it was time government and stake holders supported girl child education.
Mr.Boakyi added that he had to impress on Assembly members to re direct funds allocated for other projects to construct the girls’ dormitory for the Ashaiman Senior High school.
The MCE further assured that the Ashaiman Senior High School which hitherto was a day school, would soon become a fully-fledged boarding school.
He called on the students and staff of the school to take very good care of the project as the second phase would commenced soon.
Receiving the keys to the building on behalf of the Ghana Education Service, Mrs Joyce Orleans Madjitey, the Ashaiman Municipal Director of Education, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the project.
She added that the project would be put to good use to achieve the purpose for why it was constructed.
Mr Kojo Ameyibor, headmaster, Ashaiman Senior High School, also thanked the Municipal Assembly for the timely intervention with a call on other benevolent organisations to assist the school.
The girls’ prefect of the school, Miss Linda Agbozo, told the GNA that the girls would take good care of the facility and preserve it well for future generations.
The first phase of the ASHASEC girls dormitory project was constructed on a budget of GH¢527,000.
It has facilities including 20 washrooms, a box room, two main halls which can accommodate 50 students each and a reception. GNA
