The Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC), has beefed up security ahead of the climax of the performance of the funeral of late overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II today.
The Chairman of the REGSEC, Mr. Salifu Saeed, emphasised that a lot of security personnel have been dispatched to Yendi and its surrounding communities to ensure smooth performance of the funeral of the late chief.
Thousands of people from all walks of lives have arrived in Yendi for the climax of the Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani`s funeral.
All chiefs and sub chiefs who matter in Dagbon traditional area are expected to follow the regent of Dagbon Kampkakuya, Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani to round the Gbewaa Palace today.
The going round the Palace of Gbewaa formed an integral part of the performance of the chiefs’ funeral in Dagbon, more particularly funeral of a Yaa-Naa, overlord of the traditional area.
Information available to the Ghanaian Times indicated that Yendi was already crowded with visitors leading to acute shortage of accommodation.
Mr. Saeed in an interview said that REGSEC viewed today`s rites as very crucial and had, therefore, taken adequate security measures to ensure peaceful performance of the funeral.
“We have already stationed security personnel at the Gbewaa palace, other important places and vantage points,” he assured.
Mr. Saeed revealed that some heads of security agencies visited the Yendi ahead of today to ensure that the security measures were intact.
He indicated that a combined team of security comprising the military and police personnel was patrolling all the roads leading to Yendi.
This, he said was to ensure that nothing untoward happened to those travelling to participate in the funeral of the late chief.
The minister therefore assured all who intend to embark on journey to Yendi not to entertain any fears at all as security personnel would provide maximum security.
Mr. Saeed also appealed to the media to help have incident free funeral, stressing it was important for journalists not to sensationalise their reportage and endeavour to cross-check their information.
The performance of the funeral of late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani is part of the road map to peace in Dagbon.
The eminent chiefs came out with a roadmap to help bring finality to the Dagbon intractable chieftaincy crisis.
Representatives of the Abudu and Andani gates of Dagbon chieftaincy divide signed to it and were presented to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, for his blessings to it.
