For the first time in the Western Region, an arm of the security agencies has donated relief items to the Sekondi Central Prisons.
The items were 20 bags of rice, 10 cartons of frozen chicken, two bags of granulated sugar, five boxes of Frytol cooking oil, 10 cartons of carbolic soap and 10 buckets of washing powder, all valued at GH?6,000.00.
Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Ernest Asante, in charge of the Sekondi Central Prisons, disclosed that it was the first time the prisons were receiving donation from the security agency since the opening of the prisons in the region.
Mr Asante was grateful to DCOP Redeemer Vincent Dedjoe, the Western Regional Police Commander, for appreciating the plight of the inmates of the prisons and coming at a time when the feeding grant for the inmates was woefully inadequate.
He told the Police Commander that the gifts would be used for a Christmas party for the inmates since the donation came at the yuletide period.
DCOP Dedjoe said Christmas was about sharing and people who thought nobody cared about them were the best people to consider giving alms to “for them to believe God cared for everybody even the repented thief.”
He said the donation was from the Inspector General of Police, Mr Asante Apeatu and Prophet TB Joshua, a Nigerian prophet, “to make the inmates feel what others outside were taking.”
