Richard Harrison – WBO Africa heavyweight champion
Two of Ghana’s WBO Africa boxing champions, Patrick Allotey and Richard Harrison, have set audacious tasks for themselves, vowing to become world champions by the end of 2019.
Allotey and Harrison retained their respective WBO Africa super welterweight and heavyweight crowns on the eve of Christmas (December 24) against foreign opposition at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
Allotey defeated Sheriff Kasongo from DR Congo with a unanimous decision verdict for his second successful defence he won after beating Frank Dodzie. His first defence was against Ugandan challenger, Badru Lusambya.
Harrison also earned a 10th round Technical Knockout (TKO) decision over Kenya’s Okolla Morris.
Both boxers, fighting from the Cabic Boxing Promotions stables, have since been unified in their expectation for the New Year which they aim to be crowned world champions.
With his vast experience in the ring, Allotey believes he needs not spend so much time at the WBO Africa level, stressing that, he was ready for the bigger guys in the division.
“It is not always true that one must defend the title for a long time to gain experience. I have it already and I’m training well enough for it.”
According to the super welterweight champion, he was ready to go through the physical demands of the game to be in perfect shape and leave the rest for his management team to sort out.
Harrison was equally optimistic about winning the heavyweight version of the title but admitted it will come with hard work.
He said winning the Africa title was no joke because of the quality of opponents along the line, adding that, ‘having watched the boxers making waves at the top, I believe I have a place up there. The title will surely come to Ghana.”
Gladly, their management, Cabic Promotions, have expressed support for all three boxers in the camp with Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ivan Bruce Kudjoe assuring the desire to get Allotey and Harrison world title fights.
Speaking ahead of their ‘Cabic Fight Night II’ event, Mr Kudjoe said management of the boxers are working tirelessly to get the WBO Africa champions world titles by the end of 2019.
