ACP DAVID SENANU EKLU,Director-General Police Public Affairs
A total of 97,805 emergency calls were recorded by the Ghana Police Service, during the Christmas season, resulting in the foiling of six robberies.
The calls, received from three emergency command centres in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale, were about fighting, drunkenness, road traffic crashes, traffic hold-ups and robberies.
The Director-General of the Police Public Affairs Directorate, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David Senanu Eklu disclosed these to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.
He said the robberies were mostly in the residential areas, adding that “the public made good use of the 191 and18555 police emergency numbers during the season which assisted the police in foiling the robberies.”
ACP Eklu said the police would intensify its public education on the emergency numbers and other crime prevention issues to assist the citizenry during difficult times.
The Director-General assured that the police was ready to protect lives and properties at anytime, and urged the public to collaborate with them to prevent crime, adding that security was a shared responsibility.
ACP Eklu cautioned the criminals to desist from their negative practice or would be arrested and prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.
He called on Ghanaians to be law-abiding to help in promoting peace and stability in the country.
