The Ministry of the Interior has placed a total ban on the carrying of arms and ammunitions or other offensive weapons in Nakpachie and surrounding villages in the Yendi municipality of the Northern Region.
A statement signed by the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey and copied to the Ghanaian Times yesterday warned that, “any person found with any arms or ammunition in the area will be arrested and prosecuted”.
The caution followed the renewal of a curfew imposed on the communities effective January 3, 2019 on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council.
“The Minister for the Interior has on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument imposed a curfew on Napkachie and its surrounding villages from 6pm to 6am,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the statement expressed government’s appreciation to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area urging them to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and rather resort to non-violent means to ensuring peace in the area.
