The Ghana Exports Promotions Authority (GEPA), has advised businesses in the Brong-Ahafo Region to make use of its innovative platform dubbed ‘The Market Hub’.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Madam Afua Asabea Asare the platform is an online platform designed and run by her outfit with support from the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to attract dozens of international buyers for goods and services in Ghana.
“The Market Hub, www.gepaghana.org is a platform that provides export trade information to exporters and other relevant stakeholders in the business development environment such as investment analysts, state institutions, parastatals, banks and private sector players,” she explained.
Madam Asare made a call in a speech read on her behalf by the GEPA Officer in-charge of the Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Regions, Mr. Yaw Adjei Yeboah at a sensitisation workshop organised for business people in the region in Sunyani last Friday.
The workshop was to inform and educate the people on the numerous opportunities on the international export market.
She said the Market Hub had become an integral part of GEPA’s operations as it provided relevant and critical export market information to potential and seasoned exporters as well as the general public.
Madam Asare noted that her outfit had over the years implemented programmes and projects including the international market access, trade fairs and exhibitions, product development, export trade information dissemination, export training and capacity building to increase non-traditional export earnings.
She said GEPA intended to make good use of the platform by sourcing integrated export and business data in Ghana and beyond, saying, “It has become imperative to demonstrate the practical usage of the hub to enable our stakeholders navigate it with ease.”
On his part the manager of the Platform, Abdlla Zakaria Khalifa Banda said about 11,000 visitors go to the site every month, adding that “the site recently won an international award in France”.
The Brong-Ahafo Regional Trade and Industry Officer, Prince Annor Baah who was at the programme explained that limited access to market was a fundamental challenge to the Ghanaian manufacturing and service sectors.
He said with the implementation of the One-District, One-Factory, it was anticipated that the country would have more goods to sell and “having access to external markets will be critical for the development of our country”.
