The Volta Regional Police Command has arrested four persons and intercepted 50 large sacks and another consignment of leaves, suspected to be cannabis worth GH¢300,000.00 at Kaira in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Ebenezer Doku, the Regional Police Commander, at a press briefing in Ho, said last Saturday, at midnight, the police received information that quantity of leaves suspected to be cannabis were being kept at a location within the Kpeve area.
He said the Regional Operations Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Eric Banini, and 25 policemen went to Kaira, a farming community, they saw two men on a motorcycle with sacks and chased them, but the men abandoned the motorcycle and the sacks, and fled into a nearby bush.
DCOP Doku said the police searched the 50 sacks and found leaves suspected to be cannabis, prompting the team to do further search, and they found five drums containing wee, all estimated at GH?300, 000.00, and four locally manufactured guns.
He said Prosper Donkor, 27, Adzomla Torvor, 70, Gati Samuel, 38, and Dotse Noah, were arrested in connection with the case and were in police custody.
DCOP Doku said the arrest was the largest ever quantity of cannabis impounded by the command and said a sample of the leaves would be sent to the police laboratory for forensic test.
He said investigations were still ongoing and called for support from the public in the fight against illicit drugs. – GNA
