Leadership of Rotary Club of Accra-La East as part of its activities has donated a 40,000 litre capacity water storage facility worth GH¢30,000 to the La Wireless Cluster of Schools in Accra.
The facility is to support the school with water storage tank and take off the burden from the students from fetching water from outside the school during school hours.
Mrs Rosemary Amarh-Kwantreng, the President of the Rotary Club of Accra, La East handling over the facility to the school, said the club identified the challenge of storage facility for water in the cluster and decided to support.
She said to fulfil the promise to the school of supporting them with the facility; they had some assistance from Sintex Group of Companies, Pergola Creations and Raleg Construction Limited among others.
She said the leadership has realised that the La Wireless Cluster of Schools has a lot of needs, they intended renovate and expand the existing library facility and enhance it with relevant learning and teaching materials to develop the knowledge base of the students.
The President said the leadership of the club intends to have an interaction with the management of the school to prioritise some of their challenges identified, adding that “this is a school we intend to adopt and make a big impact in the lives of the students and teachers”.
Mr Amarh-Kwantreng said they have also provided medical equipments to the La General Hospital estimated at $20, 000.
“We also intended to organise a cancer eye project with the collaboration of a club in Germany to screen babies from birth to one year covering the whole country with initial pilot outside Accra valued at $60, 000,” she said.
She said the leadership intends to organise a fun rising activity dubbed, “the Football Family Fiesta,” friendly football tournament to raise funds towards the eye project.
Mr Edward Opoku-Manu, the Circuit Supervisor for La Wireless Cluster of Schools, thanked the leadership of the club for its wonderful gesture.
He acknowledged the club’s support to the La Wireless Cluster of Schools and assured them that the students would take good care of the facility.
Mr Opoku-Manu said the facility would help in the school’s health activities of handwashing and hygiene.
He said the basic problem in the school was the issues of water storage, library expansion, painting of school structure and a common room for staff.
The students also expressed great joy for the facility and promised to use them judiciously.
