The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on the people of Yilo Krobo to disregard misconceptions that government is moving the University of Environment and Sustainable Development from Somanya to Bunso in the Eastern Region.
According to him, the misconceptions were peddled by his political opponents meant to soil his relationship with the people of Krobo, and, therefore, asked them not to buy into it, adding that he cannot do that.
“I am here not only to renew my relationship and acquaintances with the people of Somanya but you have given me the opportunity to put to death the misinformation into the system and peddled by my political opponents.”
President Akufo-Addo made these statements at a durbar in Somanya during his three-day working visit to the Eastern Region.
His visit was meant to renew his relationship with the people of the region and to ascertain the state of development in the communities of the region and to afford him the opportunity to talk to the people about their concerns and how the government was addressing them.
The President stated that “there is only one University of Environment and Sustainable Development in the region and it is the first public university in the Eastern Region.”
He emphasized that “there was only one Vice Chancellor and one administration headquarters” revealing that that the vice chancellor’s residence and the administration block was being constructed.
President Akufo-Addo stated that the misconceptions were peddled because his opponents were eager to take power from his government hence were ready to fabricate stories to destroy his relationship with the people of the country.
He stated that per the content of the agreement with the Italians who have given about 45million Euros to build the University he is not allowed to move the University to Bunso.
“Because I am from there it is easy for anyone to say that I will do this but I will say that is not the basis for which I am governing this country. I am not standing only for the people of Akyem Abuakwa but for the entire people of this country,” he told the people.
President Akufo-Addo called on the people of Krobo and Ghanaians in general to clear their minds of the misconceptions and not to be distracted but to support and rally behind him to bring more development into the country.
He hoped that by July next year the University would be completed adding that he would be glad to commission it.
The President stated that the 2019 budget was evident that government was bringing development in the area of railway and roads among others and called on the people to support the government attain its goals.
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Kwesi Amoako Atta revealed that a number of roads in the region have been selected to be constructed and assured the people that they would be done.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour was glad with the extent of work done in the construction of the University and urged the contractor to work hard to finish it to serve as a benefit to the people of Krobo and all Ghanaians.
The Divisional Chief of Bonya, Nene Ayetey Ayeboku was grateful to the government for establishing the University adding that it would be beneficial to the people of Krobo and Ghanaians as a whole.
He however, appealed to the government to construct some roads in the area that were in a deplorable state.
