THE Ghana National Scholarship Beneficiaries Association (GNASBA) in collaboration with Fan Milk Limited has marked their 25th anniversary of the School Health Environmental Sanitation Education and Afforestation Campaign at Haatso in the Ga East Municipal of the Greater Accra Region under the theme “Help protect our environment.”
A rally was held at the Papao community Presby Basic School in the municipality, after a clean-up exercise involving 34 selected first and second cycle institutions.
Highlight of the programme was the presentation of 150 litter bins, assorted drinks and other logistics from Fan Milk Limited as well as 300 seedlings from the Forestry Commission of Ghana.
The National Chairman of GNASBA, Katakyie Amankwaa Afrifa hailed Fan Milk Limited for their consistent support for the past 25 years.
He said the sacrifice and hard work of the association had benefited 110 districts in all the 10 regions across the country and called for the support of the government in cleaning and greening school compounds and communities.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Ms Janet Tulasi Mensah who was the special guest of honour, expressed her appreciation to GNASBA and Fan Milk Limited for the gesture.
Addressing the students and pupils, she said, Ghanaians were at risk of the harmful effect of global warming as a result of disregard to adhering to sound environmental and sanitation practices, adding “when the last tree dies the last man dies.”
Ms Tulasi Mensah said one of the key factors to addressing the country’s environmental and sanitation challenges was positive change in attitude and appealed to district directors of education to form an inaugurated novelty sanitation clubs in first and second cycle institutions countrywide.
The Municipal Director of Education, Mrs Bernice Ofori thanked the organisers and promised to put the logistics to good use to benefit the nation.
Ms Naa Ayeleysa Quaynor-Mettle, the Pick It Manager of Fan Milk Limited said her company was proud to be part of the environmental campaign for the past 25 years.
Ms Quaynor said, one of the responsible ways of ensuring the protection of our environment was waste segregation, and urged the students to educate their parents on Ghana’s waste management problems.
Nii Annang Ofori, chief of Papao and former Presiding Member of the Ga East Municipal Assembly, chaired the function.
