The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), said it would cause the arrest and prosecution of persons, businesses, suppliers, retailers and manufacturers whose activities posed health risk to the public.
“Businesses whose activities expose the public to risk will be subjected to strict regulatory sanctions, including closure of premises and prosecution,” a statement issued by the Authority and copied to the Ghanaian Times said.
The statement cautioned the food industry to desist from offering for sale unregistered and expired products.
It also advised businesses not to sell products not labeled in English, products without date markings, those with tampered labels, dented canned and bloated products.
The Authority reminded importers, manufacturers, supermarkets and retail proprietors to observe the strictest compliance on all regulated products.
“The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), reminds all importers, manufacturers, and supermarkets and retail proprietors to observe the strictest compliance measures with respect to all FDA regulated products as we approach the festive season.”
Among other things, the statement advised consumers not to patronise products with damaged packaging, rusted canned products and products not kept under good storage conditions.
The statement urged members of the public to direct all queries or concerns related to the notice through the following channels, 0299802932 or 0299802933.
Members of the public, the statement said, could also reach the Authority through whatsapp on 0206973065 Food and Drugs Authority, Ghana on Facebook, also on www.fdaghana.gov.gh, 4015 (on all networks except GLO) for SMS and fdaghana by twitter.
