Professionals Forum International (PFI), an affiliate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has hinted they may head to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) over the President’s action if any in football governing body FIFA slapping a lifetime ban on ex-Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi.
It said it supports the party’s call for an independent inquiry into the President’s involvement in the “Number 12” documentary.
Head of the Forum, Arnold Appiah, speaking on the bribery scandal from his United States (US) base, hinted the group may be forced to seek the involvement of the CHRAJ to clean the “mess” around the presidency.
The NDC, in a statement asked the President to “open himself up for transparent and credible investigations by an independent body” to clear his name in the bribery scandal unearthed in the video screened nationwide in which Mr. Nyantakyi was caught implicating the President in a bribe collection syndicate at the presidency.
According to Mr. Appiah “the scandal at the presidency is a setback to woo investors into the country, and that many actions of the Akufo Addo-led government is derailing the gains made by the NDC in the development of the country when it took power from former President Agyekum Kufuor.
“The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Police Service, as a matter of urgency, updates Ghanaians on the status of investigation into the bribery scandal because the scandal has tarnished the image and reputation of all Ghanaians,” Mr Appiah observed.
Mr Nyantakyi, the former football mogul was seen in the said tape, arranging for the payment of $5 million to the presidency and similar amounts for several top government officials, in order to facilitate the award of juicy contracts to supposed investors and also suggested in the said video, such acts made the presidency amenable to his influence. –myjoyonline.com
