Top Ghanaian goalkeeper with Nigerian Premier League outfit, Enugu Rangers, is hoping to be handed an invitation to the national senior male football team, the Black Stars, ahead of their next African Nations Cup (AFCON) qualifier next month.
Nana Bonsu has been a regular member of the Enugu Rangers team and believes he deserves a call-up to Ghana’s squad ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia.
The 29-year-old helped Rangers to win the Aiteo Cup final against Kano Pillars last weekend after saving two penalties during the shootout.
His performance for the team in recent outings has earned him rave reviews and is knocking sternly on the doors of the national team.
“I’ve been doing my best and I think I deserve this chance to represent Ghana next month,” Bonsu told Goal.
“There are equally good goalkeepers around but since the call-up is solely based on form, I believe the coaching staff must give me the opportunity. At least, everyone in Nigeria is aware of my heroics and I need to be rewarded.
“With Ghana in a dire need of three points against Ethiopia to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, I think my presence will help. Kwesi Appiah must give me a chance. This is my time and I promise to do my best when given the opportunity,” he added.
Ghana is sitting third in Group F of the qualifiers with three points, four points behind Kenya.
