The committee is chaired by Ebenezer Siadah, Assistant Controller and Accountant General in-charge of Pensions, at Controller and Accountants General’s Department.
Other members are Rudolph Kuuzegh and Samuel Amankwah, both members of the Fire Service Council; Frederick Komla Gle and Solomon Wemegah, both from the Internal Audit Agency (IAA).
Inaugurating the committee, Mr Ransford Agyei, acting Director General of IAA, in a statement read on his behalf, said the inauguration was in line with the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), to ensure public accountability, transparency, efficient use of public assets and purse, among others.
Aside its mandate, he said, the Committee was to advise the GNFS on risk management practices, compliance with laws, regulations, rules, policies and procedures as well as internal controls and governance.
Mr Agyei said it was also expected to provide support for the internal audit unit, internal monitoring unit and external scrutiny, ensure that the internal audit unit received resources, and to enable the unit execute its mandate and review internal audit unit’s strategic and annual plans.
Additionally, the committee was to identify areas that the internal audit unit would be expected to increase audit tests, and support its trainings to sharpen skills and knowledge for internal auditing, and champion quality assurance and programme of the internal audit unit.
Mr Siadah stated that the committee was ready to support the internal audit unit in ensuring that resources of the Service were used judiciously.
He called for cooperation from the officers of the GNFS, to allow the committee perform it works effectively.
Mr Siadah said that the committee would go strictly by its functions, and not embark on any activity that would border on witch hunt.
The Chief Fire Officer, Edwin Ekow Blankson, assured the audit committee of support and cooperation, to ensure good corporate governance and accountability.
