Synod Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (E. P. Church, Meridian Presbytery) Rev. Dr Lt Col. B.D.K. Agbeko, has urged Christians to give generously to influence the lives of others and the work of God.
He said Christians should try as much as possible to imitate Christ and his perfect examples by showing interest in the welfare of others and by looking for ways to care for their needs.
Rev. Agbeko gave the advice in his sermon on Sunday at the 25th anniversary of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church-Nukunu Congregation at Sakumono under the theme “Breaking New Grounds Revisited, Now Is Our Turn.”
He said Jesus Christ who gave his life as ransom for many, epitomised generosity and also served as a guiding principle or model for Christians to emulate.
Cultivating the quality of generosity therefore, leads to God’s favour and helps to fulfil his purpose and the role God has given to humanity.
In order to attain happiness and fulfilment, Rev. Agbeko said, then, we need to imitate Christ’s example by showing interest in others and be generous givers without reluctance or compulsion.
He stated that, being selfish, focusing only on one’s self and putting the pursuit of their interest ahead of obedience to God and commitment to the growth of the Church did not lead to the self fulfilment and happiness.
“By being generous, we demonstrate our conviction that God’s way of doing things was the best.
“Selfless giving, kindness and generosity could be shown in many ways and in many areas of our Christian lives with rewarding results,” Rev. Agbeko noted.
The anniversary was characterised by fund raising in aid of church roofing, cutting of cake and presentation of citations to founding members of the Church.
