Suspect Daniel Newman Teye
Two persons who allegedly attempted to traffic narcotics drugs through the courier service have been nabbed by the officials of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) in Accra.
The suspects are Daniel Newman Teye, 32 and Kwasi Kumi Otenpong, 29, also known as Timmy.
A press release issued by NACOB and sighted by the Ghanaian Times stated the two are in prison custody pending further investigations.
According to the statement, the operatives earlier on August 30, arrested Teye when he presented a package, and a small speaker for postage in Accra.
The statement indicated that when the package was scanned it revealed that the parcel contained some foreign materials in it.
“The speaker was carefully dismantled in the presence of Teye and was found to contain three small parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, a narcotic drug,” the statement revealed.
According to NACOB, Teye denied ownership and knowledge of the Speaker and its contents and mentioned Otenpong as the owner of the items.
The NACOB indicated that Teye subsequently led a team of officers to New Dawenya in the Ningo Prampram District to Timmy residence and a search conducted in his presence revealed five parcels and six wrappers of suspected cannabis.
According to the statement, upon interrogation Otenpong admitted ownership of the speaker and the content and those in his living room and was subsequently arrested.
The statement indicated that Otenpong also disclosed that he is a regular user of the drug and sells to prospective buyers.
According to the statement the exhibits have been sent to the Ghana Standards Authority for forensic examination and report.
NACOB admonished the public to desist from delivering parcels for and on behalf of others, as it has been the conduit for trafficking narcotic drugs.
“The public is also encouraged to voluntarily provide information leading to the arrest of suspects indulging in narcotic drugs,” it stated.
