Medical doctors
A total of 13 Ghanaian medical doctors selected from the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Sunyani Regional Hospital and Tamale Regional Teaching Hospital are participating in a four-week medical training in India.
Their training will cover areas such as Critical Care Medicine, Urology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Neurology, Cardiology, Laproscopic surgery, Radiation Oncology, Nephrology and Orthopedics.
“The fully sponsored training programmes being conducted in September this year would go a long way to improve the skills and boost capacity of the beneficiaries,” a statement issued by the India High Commission in Accra said.
The statement said in addition, five Ghanaian officials from the Ministry of Energy were currently undergoing three weeks training in Solar Energy at National Institute of Solar Energy, Gurugram whilst two others were also benefiting from a 2 week programme on Small Hydro Power Policy and Regulation at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.
“One official from the same Ministry is also undergoing training on Petroleum Refining Technology and Petrochemicals at Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun for twelve weeks in this September,” the statement said.
The government of India is assisting friendly developing countries like Ghana through rubric of South-South Cooperation to boost capacity in the energy sector.
The training programmes are under the India-Africa Forum Summit which is the official platform for African-Indian relations.
It was established on April 4, 2008 with the objective of enhancing and widening its ambit for mutual benefit in the areas of agricultural sector, health, trade, industry and investment, education, peace and security, promotion of good governance and civil society and information and communication technology to African countries.
