The 24th Congregation of the Valley View University, at Oyibi in the Greater Accra Region, has been held with a call on students to avoid cutting corners to achieve academic laurels.
The Executive Chairman, Svani Group Limited, Mr. Thomas Svanilcier, who gave the advice, said: “There is no gain without pain. One must struggle to achieve success in order to enjoy a bright future.”
A shortcut gain, he explained, would eventually lead to a long term disaster as the dubious means employed earlier would no more be available.
“Shortcut to life leaves one in a limbo as inappropriate methods employed earlier would no more be available and this could lead to disaster,” he added.
Mr. Svanilcier stated that achieving academic success called for hard work, determination and respect for rules and regulations and a lot of sacrifice to ensure that such targets and goals were met.
“Academic success is not achieved on a silver platter, which is why I am urging all students to put in their maximum effort while in school to ensure that the efforts of their guardians and school authorities are not in vain,” he added.
He indicated that a One Million Cedi Education Trust Fund will be established at the Valley View University to sponsor the education of brilliant but needy girls from the Ga-Dangme communities in the Greater Accra Region especially Osu.
Mr. David Weigley, the Columbia Union President of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, in the United States of America charged the students to exhibit the highest professional conduct anywhere they find themselves.
As products of an Adventist institution, you must exhibit integrity anywhere you find yourselves in order not to drag the name of the church and the institution in the mud.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Daniel Kwame Bediako said the institute would continue to uphold confidence in their unique identity and values in order to fulfill their mission.
“We would continue to strengthen intellectual and spiritual growth, academic excellence, mobilise resources, internal systems policies and programmes,” he added.
He stated that the collective achievement for the 2017/2018 academic year had been above average despite the numerous challenges.
Prof. Bediako said the nursing student achieved 82 per cent pass in the 2017 nursing licensing examinations, the highest score in the country.
