The suspects from left Mathias Fenyi and Isaac Quayson
Two people who allegedly robbed and murdered a taxi driver in cold blood at Nkramokrom, near Abura Dunkwa in the Central Region have been arrested by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Accra.
Mathias Fenyi, 23 alias Kwadwo Peter, a friend to the deceased and Isaac Quayson, 24 alias Osofo were reported to have conspired and murdered the victim, Evans Edu alias Kwesi Korankye.
They were reported to have stabbed the deceased several times with a knife in the abdomen, face and eyes, crushed his genitals and run over him with a taxi cab killing him on the spot.
The suspects are in the custody of the police assisting in investigations, the Director- General of CID, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, told the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.
She said last week Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. Fenyi called to inform the deceased that a friend needed his services.
The Director-General said the deceased who was then in charge of a yellow and white Toyota Yaris taxi cab with registration number GE 5115-18, arrived at Yamoransa junction and Fenyi introduced Quayson to the deceased as the one who needed his services.
DCOP Addo-Danquah said Quayson armed himself with a kitchen knife, sat directly behind the deceased whilst Fenyi positioned himself at the front passenger seat.
She said the two suspects led the deceased to the outskirts of Nkramofokrom on a rough road and started struggling with the deceased; Fenyi was alleged to have held the deceased by the neck whilst the vehicle was in motion at a section of the road along a bush path and suddenly put off the engine and removed the ignition key.
DCOP Addo-Danquah said Quayson also held the neck of the deceased against the driver’s seat with his right hand while squeezing the throat with the left hand.
She said the deceased became unconscious and the suspects removed the unconscious cabbie from the front seat of the taxi and pushed him out along the bush, adding that Fenyi collected a kitchen knife which was in the possession of Quayson and stabbed the deceased several times on the abdomen, the face including the two eyes.
DCOP Addo-Danquah said the suspects also used sticks to strike the deceased’s genitals several times, Fenyi took control of the cab and run over the deceased’s unconscious body killing him instantly.
The Director-General said the two suspects after committing the heinous crime threw the knife and deceased’s mobile phone into a nearby bush and bought bags of sachet water to clean the blood stains on the cab and took the day’s sales of GH¢120 and drove to Accra to sell the car.
She said last Friday, the Police arrested Quayson at Kokrobite Oshiyie in Accra, when he offered the taxi cab for sale at GH¢14,000, adding that the vehicle was retrieved and impounded by the Police.
DCOP Addo-Danquah said during interrogation, he mentioned Fenyi as his accomplice and he was also arrested at Egyaa No. 1 near Cape Coast.
She said the suspects have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, murder and robbery, adding that they would be arraigned soon.
