The three drivers of the tankers were arrested to assist in investigations, but the crew on board the canoe, escaped and were being sought by security personnel.
Briefing the media, the Command Operations Officer for the ENC, Commander Isaac Mahama Abu, said the operation was conducted after his outfit on patrols received information that some persons were discharging fuel at the Canoe Basin at the Tema Port.
He said the patrol team on arrival at the Canoe Basin, noticed that hoses had been connected from the canoe to the tankers for siphoning of the fuel without any safety measures, which posed a threat to lives of the people and properties at the area.
Commander Isaac Mahama Abu said the fuel tankers were kept with the Eastern Naval Command while the canoe was at the harbour.
He said the ENC was collaborating with the National Petroleum Authority and the Tema Port authorities to investigate the matter, and bring all culprits linked to the deal to book.
