Four persons including a woman who are believed to be in a car snatching syndicate have been arrested at Osu in Accra.
Kwame Adoboye, alias Opotsu, 18, Mohammed Abu, 22, Alima Mumuni, 16, and David Apusina are currently in the custody of the police assisting in investigations.
Alima, is reported to have looked out for prospective taxi drivers whilst her accomplices Adoboye and Abu lace drink for their victims and snatched their car.
Briefing the media, the Osu District Police Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police,(ASP) Richard Daplah said last year, Alima engaged the services of a taxi driver (name withheld), from the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to Osu Oxford Street Container area.
He said Alima told the driver that her friends (Adoboye and Abu) would hire for his services from Osu to deliver goods to a client later.
The crime officer said when they got to Osu, Alima asked the driver to wait whilst she calls her friends in.
He said Alima went and informed her accomplices that, the driver had arrived.
ASP Daplah said Alima later came back to the driver and offered him an energy drink laced with a substance to drug him without his knowledge.
The crime officer said their victim took the drink which dazed him few minutes later.
He said after seeing him asleep, Adoboye and Abu pulled him out of the car and drove it to the Kwame Nkrumah Circle (Opera Square) where they sold the car to Apusina at a fee of GH¢5,000 but he paid GH¢ 3,000 as deposit.
The crime officer on October 5, said Alima was spotted by the driver at Circle and raised an alarm.
He said she was arrested and she led the police to arresther accomplices.
ASP Daplah said the suspects have since confessed to the crime and would soon be arraigned in court for stealing.
He appealed to the public who have fallen victim to such scam to report to the police for assistance.
