The camp is expected to enrich the strudents with knowledge
The Girl Child Education Unit under the Ghana Education Service (GES), has pledged its support to young girls who are interested in reaching high in education.
According to the Kumasi Metropolitan Girl Child Education Unit Officer, Mrs Vida Owusu, young girls deserved better education and that nothing should hinder them ftom experiencing Education.
“Our Unit was created in 1997 to help promote girl child education in the country, and it is our duty to empower young girls to know the essence of education”, Mrs Owusu said.
Adding that under no circumstances should a girl drop out from school “not even pregnancy should stop you from going to school.”
Speaking at the opening of the 2017 Leadership and Enrichment Camp Conference organised by Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) in collaboration with Mastercard Foundation in Kumasi, Mrs Owusu said their offices accross the country was opened to students who were facing difficulties in their education and that, they could confide in their officers about anything.
This year’s edition of the camp was attended by over 200 female students from five second cycle institutions in the Central Region. The participating schools are Mfantsiman Girls, Apam SHS, Edina SHS, Aggrey Memorial SHS and Twifo SHS.
The seven -day Camp Conference is under the theme, ” Empowering Young Women for change”.
According to the Human Resource Manager for CAMFED, Ms Jacqueline Coffie, the Conference was under the CAMFED Scholar Programme and it aims at providing unique opportunities for interactions and mentoring between role models and participants.
It also seeks to provide learning platform for participants to gain deeper understanding of issues around community leadership, service and give-back which are imperative to success of the Scholars Programme.
According to her “the expectation is that proceedings at this Leadership and Enrichment Camp will contribute significantly to preparing the next generation of law and policy makers, traditional, community, business as well as political leaders who can make a contribution to the socio-economic development of Ghana in particular and Africa at large”.
Mrs Coffie also indicated that, the aim of CAMFED’s Scholars Programme was to build a network of visionary educators at second cycle schools and universities who share the objective of inclusive, equitable and high quality education.
Professor Ellis Otoo, former Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, advised the youth to take advantage of the available opportunities offered by organisations to empower the youth so as to pave way for their bright future.
