Celebrated boxing referee, Tony Weeks is expected to arrive in Ghana on Sunday, July 16 for the July 22 WBO International championship involving Ghana’s Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe.
The legendary American referee, Weeks, who has officiated top fights involving Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Osca de la Hoya, Shane Mosley and many other great boxers will be in the middle of the ring when Dogboe defends his WBO International super bantamweight title against Argentine opponent, Nicolas Javier Chacon at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
Weeks will arrive the same day with Chacon and his technical team for what is expected to be Dogboe’s biggest challenge yet, according to Paul Dogboe, trainer of Isaac Dogboe.
According to Paul, Weeks and Team Chacon will be welcomed at the airport by officials of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and members of the promotional team.
Giving out the itinerary, he said Weeks will grant interviews to the media; the same as Chacon before they are chauffeured-driven to Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel – Hospitality sponsors of the event dubbed ‘Journey to Vegas’ – where they will lodge.
Prior to the fight, Weeks will also hold a seminar for local boxing referees and judges in the country.
Paul said World Boxing Organisation (WBO) officials for the big fight will arrive two days later as preparation for the fight get to the final stages.
The event put together by Rising Star Africa Promotions is sponsored by Silver Star Company Limited, distributors of Mercedes Benz vehicles and Unibank Ghana, major sponsors.
The fight would be Isaac’s 17th professional fight and is confident about coming out victorious to maintain his enviable unbeaten run.
