Dr. Wiafe-Addai interacting with a section of the students
More than two thousand female students of the Ejisuman Senior High School in the Ashanti region, have benefited from a free health education and cancer screening exercise with the aim of engaging them in the campaign against breast cancer.
Among other objectives, the exercise was to help in adequately educating the students about breast cancer to enable them to create awareness in their households and communities.
As part of the exercise, conducted by Breast Care International, the leading anti-breast care campaigner, the students were screened by breast cancer and other non-communicable diseases.
Addressing the students prior to the screening, Dr. Beatrice Wiafe-Addai, president of Breast Care International, stressed the critical role students could play in the fight against breast cancer and other preventable ailments.
Describing students and young people in general as prime change agents in communities, she said due to their importance to society, it was also necessary to protect young people against health threats that could hamper their growth into productive adults.
The exercise, she explained was part of a nationwide project in which the BCI would tour schools across the country to form partnership with schools and community stakeholders to enhance the breast cancer campaign.
Popular actress Nana Ama McBrown who is a breast cancer ambassador, advised the students to focus on their studies and resist negative peer pressure.
