The Agona Swedru Circuit Court has jailed Awal Mohammed Haji, a 29-year –old unemployed man, for 30 years, for robbery, and defiling a 13-year-old school girl.
The convict was arrested by the Agona Kwanyako watchdog committee and handed over to the Agona Swedru Police Divisional Command of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
Chief Inspector Isaac Amon told the court presided by Mr Michael Entumi that on September 14, 2014, the victim’s parents reported the defilement and robbery to Agona Kwanyako Neighbourhood Watch Dog Committee.
The Prosecution said the victim was sent by the parents to buy items from a nearby market at Agona Kwanyako.
Chief Insp Amon said the convict, who was loitering saw the victim at the Agona Kwanyako Seventh–Day Adventist Basic School.
He told the court that Haji chased the girl and pulled a knife and collected GHc10.00 given to her by the parents.
The prosecution said the convict dragged the girl into a classroom and had sexual intercourse with her, and cautioned her not to tell anybody else she would die.
Chief Insp Amon said the victim went home and informed her parents about the ordeal.
The prosecution said the convict went into hiding but was apprehended by the watch dog committee who handed him over to DOVVSU. – GNA
