For a couple of weeks now, the Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College, in the Ahafo Ano North District of the Ashanti Region, has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.
The principal and the Accountant of the College have been accused of embezzling GH¢9.2million.
Although the Principal, Ms Victoria Amoah and the Accountant, Mr Richard Asomoah, have both denied any wrong doing, their accusers insist that they have indulged in corrupt practices leading to the losS of the huge amount of money belonging to the school.
For example, they alleged that the two used fake receipts and invoices to dupe the college during every admission year.
They claimed that the alleged corrupt practices started soon after the school was established in 2011 and Ms Amoah, had been taking unilateral decisions in admission and allocation of resources, due to the absence of a Board of Directors.
Although several other allegations have been made, too numerous to recount here, the two principal actors in their response, denied all the allegations and threatened to go to court over the matter.
The Times is baffled that in spite of the serious allegations leveled against the principal and accountant, no effort has been made to institute a probe into the matter.
The allegations being thrown about and the money involved, is so huge that an investigation into the matter is the only way to unearth the truth.
As the matter stands now, its the word of the accusers against the two principal actors, and it is not in anyone’s interest to let the matter hang without getting to the bottom of it.
As a matter of fact, allegations of corruption have been leveled against some nursing training colleges in the country, but Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College allegations appear to be gigantic, and that is why; an investigation must be conducted into it to unravel the truth.
Indeed, too many allegations of corruption have been leveled against school heads, but many have been swept under the carpet.
