Sadiq Adam, a 27-year -old footballer of second division side, Top Talents FC, at Kasoa Millennium City, was shot and killed by armed robbers, at his residence at Kasoa Peace Town.
Adam was attacked just a day after informing members of the team that the team manager had lodged GH¢ 15,000 with him to pay salary arrears.
A lady (name withheld), who the robbers first attacked before breaking into the deceased’s house, said she overheard the robbers demand the money to be used to pay the footballers.
The Kasoa police have since arrested one suspect, Nii Yartey, in connection with the murder, and mounted a search for two others known only as Awudu and York, also known as Hausa.
According to the police, the 27 year-old player/coach, died of gunshot wounds around 2 am after the robbery.
A policeman, who confirmed the incident to The Ghanaian Times, on condition of anonymity, said Nii Yartey was arrested in connection with the murder, and would be arraigned before court today.
He said Yartey was arrested at Budumburam, a suburb of Kasoa, on Tuesday, after police had information he was hiding in the area.
The police said yesterday, two accomplices were still on the run, and had mounted a search for them.
