Volta Regional Police Commander – ACP Nana Asomah
A WOMAN believed to be in her 50s on Saturday became the latest victim of sporadic gunfire in the Alavanyo-Nkonya area, in the Volta Region.
Elizabeth Yawa Anku was shot and killed at Alavanyo-Kpeme, behind her house at the outskirts of the community, by unidentified gunmen.
According to the police, the incident took place at about 7am.
The body of Anku has been sent to the Margaret Marquat Catholic Hospital in Kpando for autopsy.
No arrest was made at the time of filing this report.
Recently, Alavanyo and Nkonya, areas, have come under sporadic gunshots in renewed violence that has claimed lives, while others have sustained gunshot wounds.
Alavanyo and Nkonya have been under curfew, over a protracted land dispute, spanning almost a century.
A team of police and military personnel has been dispatched to Alavanyo and Nkonya which share a common boundary, to maintain law and order.
Mr. Ambrose Dery, Minister of the Interior, has renewed the curfew imposed on the Alavanyo and Nkonya townships.
