The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly has rejected Ms Jennifer Dede Afagbedzi as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area.
The nominee polled only four votes out of the 13 assembly members present. Nine of them voted against her, thus she could not secure the two-thirds votes to get the endorsement as required by law.
Though the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey appealed to the assembly members to endorse the nominee for the progress of the assembly, the members stood their grounds and rejected the nominee.
The minister and her deputy, Ms Elizabeth Sackey and other ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives earlier held a closed door meeting with the assembly members.
This gave a false indication to the large crowd that gathered at the National Vocational Training Institute in Madina, the venue of the programme, that the nominee would get an easy ride, only for them to laugh at the wrong side of their mouth.
The outcome of the results led to a heated debate among both supporters and opponents of the nominee.
The nominee who has another chance of being nominated by the President told her supporters that she would be “lucky at the second attempt”.
