IBRAHIM MAHAMA
The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has withdrawn its lawsuit against businessman, Ibrahim Mahama, over non-payment of social security contribution for its staff by his construction company.
The case was dismissed by an Accra District Court on Saturday after the SSNIT withdrew the case.
The SSNIT dragged Mr Ibrahim and three other directors of Engineers and Planners (E &P) to court for failing to honour an agreed payment plan.
The amount, GH¢1,056,464.06, per the payment plan, was to be settled in 12 monthly installments from February 2017 ending in January 2018, but E&P missed the payment date by two days.
According to the SSNIT, E&P had breached the National Pensions Act, 2008 (Act 766), and the National Pensions (Amendment) Act 2014 (Act 883) when it failed to pay employee contributions.
Ms Nancy Amartefio, lead counsel for the company, prayed the court to dismiss the case because Engineers and Planners had already paid more than GH¢2million to SSNIT in excess of the amount owed.
The payments, Ms Amartefio said, were made prior to the first court hearing on April 29.
The lawyer for the SSNIT, Leena Boakye, disagreed telling the court that the payments were only made on April 28 after the summons was issued to the accused on April 13 but, however, withdrew the case.
