Members of the Agona East District Assembly have pledged to endorse Denis Armah-Frempong, President Nana Akufo- Addo’s nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE).
According to the people, it would be a major setback for members of the assembly to reject the President’s nominee as it could affect policies and programmes of the area.
This came to light when members of the assembly held a meeting to discuss matters affecting the welfare of the district.
At the meeting, they were of the view that failure to approve the nominee would not bring about peace and development to the district.
Abdul Suleman, assemblyman for Agona DuakwaZongo Ankobea electoral area in an interview after their meeting, thanked the President for nominating Mr. Armah-Frempong as the DCE.
He said the nominee come into office with a rich knowledge and experience and therefore appealed to his collagues to approve the nominee.
Mr Suleman said Mr Armah-Frempong could deliver without any hindrance because he held the same position in 2008, when the then Agona District was divided into East and West during President J.A. Kufuor’s regime.
Albert Quainoo, assemblyman for Fawomanye electoral area said members of the assembly knew the calibre of person President Akufo-Addo had nominated for the DCE position and hoped that Mr. Armah-Frempong would execute the job to satisfaction.
He said the nominee also had an in-depth knowledge of local government management because of his background as former assembly man for Nsaba Salem electoral area, where he served for two terms.
According to Mr Quainoo, the nominee being the first DCE to be appointed for Agona East would be given the necessary support and advice to enable his administration to succeed.
Christopher Yenu, assemblyman for Agona, explained that the assembly was united behind the nominee, without any entrenched partisan politics.
He said the members would vote overwhelmingly to endorse Mr. Armah-Frempong, adding that no amount of politics could divide them to vote against the nominee.
Mr Yenu said Agona East District was lagging behind in infrastructural development and there was the need for the assembly members to endorse the nominee to reduce the deficit.
