The World Bank has released $ 1.2 billion soft loans to Ghana, in support of its developmental agenda.
The World Bank Country Director to Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, Mr. Henry Kerali, announced this when he led a five-member delegation to pay a courtesy call on the Minister of Sanitation and Water, Mr. Joseph Kofi Adda, in Accra yesterday.
The maiden meeting sought to discuss issues on water and sanitation and ways in addressing sanitation in the country.
It also gave the team the opportunity to introduce themselves to the new minister and also outline their programme for the country.
Mr. Kerali said the loan formed part of the World Bank’s three-year project in support of areas such as water and sanitation in Ghana.
He said the World Bank would collaborate with the Ministry of Finance on the priority areas.
Mr. Henry Kerali assured of the World Bank’s continuous financial and technical support to help achieve goals.
He stated that key areas of the World Bank were sanitation and water, urban development, environment, natural resource, climate change, energy, transport and economic fiscal management.
Mr. Adda said “Government is committed to ensuring that the sanitation issues were addressed in the country “.
He said the government would use capacity building and effective communication strategies to deal with negative attitudinal change regarding the environment.
Mr. Adda said toilets, drains and gutters needed to be constructed to help create a safer environment.
The minister commended the team for its support for Ghana, especially in the area of water and sanitation.
