Some of the players preparing for the Nigeria game
Ghana and Nigeria are expected to evoke the age-long rivalry between them when they go at each other in a special skate soccer encounter, to be held at the Independence Square in Accra, on March 19.
Dubbed the Binatone International Unity Skate Soccer Cup, the game promises to produce an amperage of thrill between the two West African giants.
Starting at 1.pm, the potentially absorbing tie had already been sanctioned by the International Federation of Skate Soccer (IFSS).
The March 19 competition is the second event in less than three months, after the La Pleasure Beach Binatone-sponsored extravaganza, won by Ashanti Warriors who upstaged Accra Giants 2-0 in the lottery of penalty shootout.
The MD of Binatone in Ghana, Mr. Venu Babu, has urged supporters of the sport and all sports-loving enthusiasts to troop to the Independence Square in their numbers to watch “an exquisite skill of soccer.”
“It’s a growing sport and we need to give it all the backing it deserves, especially because of our less-privileged brothers.
“Indeed, we intend to make the sport popular and more respected by the citizens, sponsors, companies and tourists. We are also committed to raising some funds through sponsorships in terms of branding for the upkeep of the players,” he said.
Skate soccer, which was originated from Nigeria, is an exciting physical fast-paced game, comprising six players a-side. Players use the handball court dimension. The back of the palm is used to play the game but has all the rules of soccer.
