The New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for Manhyia South, Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has presented GHC5,000 and 360 lunch packs to the Manhyia Local Prisons.
Lawyer Baffour Awuah said the money is meant to be seed money for the newly established Health Fund for the prison, christened Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh Health Fund, named after his predecessor, the NPP Running mate, for his good deeds in the constituency.
According to the PC, although the inmates are covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme, it does not cover all drugs prescribed to them, hence the Health fund, which serves as a supplement to cover excess health cost, which accrue bills on the prison administration.
He said measures are in place to address the office and accommodation plight of the Prison Officers.
According to Lawyer Awuah, the inmates are not outcasts but are there for rehabilitation to become better citizens for the nation and, therefore, should not be humiliated.
Deputy Director of Prisons, Joseph Asabre, Officer-in- Charge of Manhyia Local Prison, who received the donation on behalf of the Prison, thanked the PC for his kind gesture, describing it as a service to God.
DDP Asabre noted that the donation has come at an opportune time, where the prison owes the Manhyia Hospital GHC1,500.
He entreated all well meaning Ghanaians to come to their aid.
