The Ashanti Regional Police Command says it has initiated investigations into an armed robbery attack on some gold dealers at Manso-Mossikrom, a village in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, a statement by the Ashanti regional police command, sighted by The Chronicle, has said.
According to a statement issued over the weekend, the police said on Thursday June 17, 2021 at about 2:00 am, MansoAdubia District Police Command received a distress call that there was an armed robbery operation going on at Manso Mossikrom.
Subsequently, the SWAT team, stationed at Manso Adubia District Command proceeded to the scene, but the alleged robbers had already fled the scene.
Manso has been a notorious robbery enclave in the Ashanti Region. This menace has largely been attributed to a bad road network and mining activities in the area.
It continued that preliminary investigation indicated that some six armed men, wielding pump action guns and machetes went to the said Community and attacked some gold buyers and robbed them of an unspecified amount of money, a quantity of raw gold and mobile phones.
“The robbers also shot and wounded two persons who were later rushed to the St. Martins Catholic Hospital at Manso Agoroyesum, where they were admitted and are undergoing treatment”, the statement said.
The Police also retrieved 15 empty cartridges from the scene and have retained the same for evidential purposes.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to arrest the perpetrators and put them before the court for prosecution.
Police will appeal to the residents in the community to provide us with credible information that will lead to the arrest of these criminals.
