The Assembly member for Krofrom East electoral area, Patrick Kwame Frimpong has said those criticising the National Identification Authority (NIA) boss, Professor Ken Attafuah, are not patriotic Ghanaians.
Prof. Attafuah is reported to have said he will not recruit party foot soldiers into the NIA and that he is focused on his mandate and would not be swayed by his detractors, including party supporters.
He has consequently been criticised for his position that the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has charged him to ensure that no Party executives are hired into the National Identification Authority (NIA), so as to build a neutral public service in the legal framework, in line with the President’s legacy.
But the former NPP second vice chairman for Manhyia constituency and former first vice chairman for Manhyia North constituency says he “fully supports the stance of Prof. Attafuah to ensure that the public sector is devoid of political party foot soldiers, who do not have the
requisite qualification”.
The Assemblyman’s support of the position is that there are a number of people who have been recruited into public institutions, particularly the Local Government sector, and placed where they have no technical know-how.
He said the situation is causing some of the district Assemblies to engage extra hands to do the work qualified persons would have done, following the recruitment of political party foot soldiers, whilst the country is also losing a lot of revenue in many institutions because the right persons are not recruited to work.
Mr Frimpong cited instances where some foot soldiers are employed as Accountants in the name of politics, even though they lack Accounting background. The Assemblyman said the NIA boss should rather be praised and accorded the needed support by all patriotic Ghanaians and noted that, those blaming Prof Ken Attafuah are either unfair or misunderstood his statement, otherwise they are not religious and Patriotic Ghanaians.
“I don’t think Prof. Attafuah stated in the said interview that Nana Akufo-Addo has ordered him not to recruit NPP Members who have the right qualifications. According to the representative of constituents of Krofrom East electoral area at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Prof. Attafuah said he (Attafuah) had been mandated to recruit professionals into the NIA, meaning if any NPP supporter has the needed qualification and applies for a job, such a person would be considered and, therefore, sees nothing wrong with Prof. Ken Attafuah’s position to warrant the unnecessary attacks on him.
M r Frimpong emphasised that Prof. Attafuah has spoken the gospel ltruth and called for the support of all those who have the interest of the nation at heart, since he is the only Chief Executive Officers (CEO), out of the many, who has boldly come out to demonstrate to the world that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has positive qualities for good
governance.
