The Medical Superintendent at the Kenyase Health Center in the Asutifi North District in the Ahafo Region, Dr Daniel Ocran, has made a passionate appeal to the assembly and government to urgently fix the abandoned power plant to enable the people access healthcare when power goes off.
According to him, the recent power outbreak in the country is making it difficult for the health workers in the facility to carry out their mandate because there is no standby plant to power their equipment and offer service to the people who visit the facility especially at night.
“Health staff find it very difficult to offer services when power goes off because there is no standby generator to power the equipment”, he said.
Speaking in an interview on Sunyani based radio station and monitored by The Chronicle, Dr. Ocran observed that the absence of a standby power plant at the facility is affecting their work “because some equipment need electricity before they can function and aside that some medicines need to be kept at cold temperature but when light goes off, we are helpless and have to wait till power is restored”.
“I assumed office a year ago and when I came I met a plant which reportedly was donated to the center by the assembly, but has not been functioning since then. I have been going to the assembly engaging authorities so that they fix it to serve its intended purpose but no positive response yet.
“It is my prayer that the authorities come to our aid as they promised and fix it as soon as possible to enable us to offer quality healthcare service to the people”, he added.
Responding to the issue, the District Chief Executive for Asutifi North, Anthony Mensah, noted that the delay in fixing the plant was due to some technical challenges, but now that those challenges have been resolved, measures have been put in place to fix it as soon as possible.
“Yes, we donated a standby generator to the health facility but it has not been functioning due to technical challenges, which have now been resolved and very soon the generator will function”, the DCE assured.
