The National Security has reportedly arrested 6 Chinese nationals, who were involved in drug peddling, money laundering and illegal mining, popularly known as “galamsey”, in the Asankragwa Township.
The arrest, which took place on May 7, 2021 came after National Security operatives conducted a swoop on two locations in the township, specifically the area behind the Petrosol fuel station and a Casino within the Xindi hotel, on the Asankragwa-Enchi road.
The 6 suspects apprehended are; Chem Gui Bim (31), Lu Siam Chu (36), Wu Sao Pui (41), Yao Sausam (44), Xue Lianlua (30) and Cheng Chun Rong (45).
The owner of the hotel is currently at large and his wife, Xue Loan Lua, was arrested and is aiding in investigations.
In addition, the operatives retrieved 1 Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle, an amount of GHS 1,302,990, one and half boxes of mercury, 6 pump action guns, 1 sidearm, 7 excavator control boards, 3 parcels of Indian hemp, 8 cartridges, 1 laptop, 80 phones and 41 ipads.
Per checks, the casino and hotel have been in active operation for almost 5 years now, casting doubts over claims that the Divisional Police in the area had no knowledge of the illegal operations in the area.
In the meantime, all 6 suspects are also in the custody of the Ministry of National Security, assisting investigations.
