The Cape Coast North Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Stephen Kojo Arhin has cautioned the executives of the party to tread cautiously with some notable NDC supporters who have joined them.
In his view, it would be absolutely disastrous for the NPP to try to give much attention to the said defectors at the expense of staunch party members who have followed the party for many years. Speaking to the press over the weekend, Mr Arhin suggested to the party to interrogate the actual motive of the defectors before any celebration
“Some of them are crooks and very selfish. They should be bold to tell us exactly what has changed about the same party and the personalities they chastised not long ago. I don’t mean to say that they should not be accepted, but let’s be careful, look at them with eagle eyes and watch their attitudes because some of them are naked opportunists,” Mr Arhin added.
The party, he advised, must not give any form of preferential treatment to any known NDC official or member who would join the NPP, especially when their motives could not be known.
“We went to opposition in 2008 and stayed out for eight good years before the charismatic qualities of Nana Addo brought us back, so we must not allow any crook and self-seeking individuals to infiltrate our ranks and file,” he advised
According to Mr Arhin, failure on the part of the party executives to avoid accepting people he described as crooks, could create disaffection among the core members of the party, who have toiled in diverse ways for the party’s fortunes.
“We have a brighter chance to break the eight years jinx in 2024, but we cannot achieve this without the involvement of our core members who form our base at the grassroots,” he stated.
In view of this, he said the party must not be too happy about any known political activist of the NDC and any other party who want to appear more loyal after the party has won power.
“They dined with NDC and benefited immensely from the opposition party. I can confidently say that some of them are struggling to be in opposition, hence their desire to switch camp,” he concluded.
