Pastors have been urged to use their pulpits to preaching against the practice of same sex unions the country.
The Chiraahene, Barima Afari Mintah, urged Ministers of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to join calls against the advocacy to legalise the practice of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ ) in the country.
“I urge all ministers of the Presby church of Ghana to stand up against the proposed legalisation of same sex unions in the country”, he said.
According to him, traditional leaders do not support such immorality since they contradict the values and culture of the country.
“Our tradition and culture do support such immoral acts because it is a dent on our values as a people”, he said.
Barima Afari Mintah made the call at the 55th session of the Brong Ahafo Presbytery, under auspices of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, held at the Peniel Retreat Center at Ayakomaso in the Sunyani West Municipality in the Bono Region.
The session is an annual gathering of Ministers, Officers and Agents of the church in a given presbytery.
It is an important occasion that offers all stakeholders in the various districts in the presbytery the platform to reflect and take stock of activities and progress of the various presbyteries for the year under review.
In attendance were the immediate past chairperson of the presbytery, Rev. Dr Williams Kwabena Ofosu Addo, Rev. Dr Charles Gyan-Duah, former clerk of the General Assembly of PCG among other dignitaries.
The chief also advised pastors to stay away from partisan politics, but rather advise national leaders when they go wrong.
“Let me advise pastors to shun partisan politics and rather be bold enough to criticise and advise political leaders when they go wrong in the discharge of their duties”, he said.
He observed that even though ministers of God have freedom of association, it is prudent they distinguish themselves and lead God’s sheep such that they are not divided.
“Pastors have the freedom to join any group but they must do so with a mind set to distinguish themselves so as to keep the people of God united”, he said.
This, he believes, will make Vision 1.5 a reality (vision 1.5 is an agenda geared towards winning souls for Christ).
He further admonished pastors to be prayerful and not to take the work of God for jokes.
“I also appeal to pastors to be very prayerful and not to take ministry work for granted”, he said.
Touching on the church to the palace initiative, the Chiraahene called on the leadership of the church to begin from his palace and pledged his support for the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
“I’m glad that the Presby church is embarking on the palace initiative and I pledge my full support in that regard. However, I wish the project starts from my palace”, he said.
