The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sissala East Constituency in the Upper West Region, Amidu Issahaku Chinna, has donated medical equipment to the Municipal Hospital.
According to the MP, the equipment is to augment the delivery of quality health service in the Municipality, and the region as a whole.
The items donated include six Pulse Oximeter, six digital B/P apparatus, two digital wrists B/P apparatus, five thermometer guns, two weighing scales, 12 flexible rubber digital thermometers, and a Blood glucose monitor with 50 stripes and 100 lancets.
Presenting the equipment to the hospital, the MP said the development of the Sissala East remained his focus, and, therefore, charged the management of the hospital to ensure the items are used to enhance quality health delivery in the municipality.
“Some time back, Dr. Emma told me they were some basic things needed in the hospital. Even though they are basic, but they are very critical in the delivery of health care to our people.
“So I tried hard to mobilise the items that he requested for, and I went ahead to add other items,” the MP stated.
Mr. Chinna expressed worry about how aged people in the municipality struggle to get their sugar level monitored due to no machines, resulting in them paying more for the service.
“I am told the aged have to pay GH¢10.00 to have access to a glucose test, but I have decided to buy you one of the machines so that you can reduce the cost for them,” he told management.
Receiving the items, the Municipal Director of Health Services, Mr Alex Bapula, expressed appreciation to the MP for his regular support to the health sector in the area.
He used the opportunity to first congratulate the MP for his recent appointment as the Deputy Minister for Sanitation and Water Resource.
“Barely three weeks ago, we witness a donation of this kind, and today we are here once again to take delivery of a second donation from you. When I received the call from you yesterday about the second donation, I was really surprised that within a month, our MP could provide us with such equipment and vaccines,” the Director happily stated.
According to media reports, Sissala East Municipal Hospital has recorded increased cases of blood pressure and diabetes over the past three years, which health officials attribute to growing sedentary lifestyles among the populace.
