The Ghana Premier League game between Legon Cities and Asante Kotoko was
temporarily halted to allow the Moslem players of both sides to break their Ramadan fast.
21 minutes into the game, referee Emmanuel Tampuri paused the game and allowed Moslem players to break their fast on the playing field at the Accra Sports Stadium.
This is the first time that something like this has happened in the history of Ghana Football and the new initiative is expected to continue until the end of the Ramadan month of fasting.
Asante Kotoko won the game by a lone goal.
Fasting during the Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, where Moslems do not eat or drink between dawn and sunset, as they show their devotion to their religion and Allah.
